Environment and Conservation Organisations of New Zealand, Inc, (ECO)

Environment and Conservation Organisations of New Zealand, inc, (ECO) is the major national public advocacy umbrella group for environmental and conservation issues in New Zealand. We have some seventy national and regional member organisations with an interest in the environment, conservation and outdoor recreation from throughout New Zealand. Included in our membership is a host of local environmental and conservation organisations, branches of international organisations such as Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth; National Council of Women; some professional organisations; recreational organisations and coalitions including some with a marine focus.

ECO is involved in lobbying Ministers and relevant Government departments and raising awareness through our member organisations about the destructive practice of deep sea bottom trawling. Our involvement in fisheries management processes provides further opportunities.
