Australian Conservation Foundation

The Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) is Australia’s foremost environmental organisation. We are national, non-profit and membership-based, and campaign to protect, restore and sustain the environment. Our vision is to inspire and promote a society that is environmentally aware and responsible. We work to find long term solutions to environmental issues and develop partnerships with community groups, governments and business.

ACF has been at the forefront of marine conservation campaigns to protect the world’s whales, the Great Barrier Reef, Shoalwater and Jervis bays, Fraser Island, Hinchinbrook Island and other marine and coastal icons.

In Australia’s unique southern seas, home to the feeding grounds of the critically endangered blue whale, ACF is currently working to ensure that each marine habitat is given sufficient protection in marine national parks. Our proposed National Oceans Act would see the waters outside these parks being managed sustainably.

ACF is working to broaden its campaign commitment to marine and coastal conservation and increase community awareness about our remarkable oceans and how to best protect them. As well as our ongoing efforts on marine national parks, oceans legislative reform and regional marine planning, we will also increase our efforts for high seas protection, in the face of overfishing, marine pollution, inappropriate coastal development, introduced marine pests and threats associated with the oil and gas industry.
